Actually,i don't know if, and most importantly how, the heavy nos should be changed. Mind you, this is comming from someone who has suffered losses of a few hundred million isk to the dreaded NOS+drones combination. I fly vagabonds a lot and i remember lossing to a nos ishtar,a short range nos tempest, having a close call with a nos+drones typhoon and just yesterday not killing a domi, because he had (guess what?) nos+drones.
The reason i didn't die was that i kept outside of web range and i was nosing him back. That didn't give me any cap to do the job,i just had enough cap for a burst of the MWD to get out of heavy nos range before i die. In fact,i trained for tech2 medium nos and finished advanced weapon upgrades lvl5 (a skill worth about 28 days of training on a character with high perception/willpower stats) so i can fit one on my setup, just because it can suck cap outside of web range.
I won't complain about the module,i understand that big ships need some defence, so i'll let the rest of the posters here debate my examples.
However,i agree 100% with Digi that ships should have roles and then we might see some balanced fleets and actual tactics. Imo,the battleships should be mainly a moneymaking tool in PvE and the last resort before capital ships in PvP. Combined with the recent boosting of the t1 cruiser class and maybe the seeding of more t2 BPO's for the HACs/Recons to drop the prices,we might actually come closer to a realistic battlefield.
I don't think any power in the world sends battleships and aircraft carriers to war without a myriad of smaller support craft as an escort, like frigates, corvettes, cruisers and the like. That's because the big ships can't defend themselves against a possible attack by numerous small and fast threats. That's called saturating the defences, and it's simulated to a point in EvE with different locking times, sig radius and tracking. Nevertheless,as we were getting a glimpse of diversity with the t1 ship overhaul and the increased cruiser agility, the RMR focus on tanking came about to reign the capacitor (or lack of it) as king of the hill, once more tipping the scale back to the bigger=better mentality. Before someone asks why should EvE mirror RL tactics,i'll just say, because it's interesting, challenging and thought-provoking to do so.
